Whatever my destiny is, I'm sure I'm not finished with myself yet. Or if some supernatural power is shaping my course, it is up to me how will I react to the game. I do think I have some say on the remote control. Aside from having no serious question on other claims in this song, there is one line in it that moves me today - "we try and go as far as we can." It is a subtle reflection of what a friend and I have been planning over the holidays. Last night she researched and left her findings on my chat window. I gathered a few documents to produce a tool that will help polish the plan. This year, this start of a new decade, I'm going as far as I can. VISAS When I reviewed my visa last month it was too late. I have already overstayed for 8 days. Multiply that by 500 and you're looking at a 4,000-baht fine. That does not include other expenses from re-acquiring a work permit and applying for a new visa twice because the first was legally snubbed. I bid another 9,000 baht adieu. At least I wasn't kicked out of the country. If I were then I would have just used a stronger resolve to visit Angkor Wat and go home for good. So what was our liaison officer doing as liaison officer? See to it that foreign employees didn't overstay! She was just as much of a useless zombie as I was. When the zombies woke up, one did her part in solving the problem by settling the fine. The other did hers by going to and fro procuring special power of attorney, police certificates and contracts in less than 24 hours. There was tension between the two old maid zombies. Nowhere near any computer was I on new year's day. I was exfoliating my heels on the sand with seafood going on at our beach table in a resort town. Then twirls and drama fell and now let me see what faves do I get out of them: 1. Food, glorious food! Was it the new year or what... maybe the holiday cheer easily satisfied my palate. The restaurants met my culinary expectations so well. It's great not to mind the expanding waistline. That can be easily solved with work. 2. Meeting family and friends at the beach . We had lovely chat over an abundance of seafood. My cousins' kids surprised me with their sizes and heights. They're all growing like wild bamboos. 3. Location of our hotel was where much of the new year action was. Countdown was awesome. I was grinning ear to ear watching everyone hugging everyone when the clock struck 12. Our Mommy Moments theme this week, New Year List, is just perfect for me. Last Sunday CJ refused to return to his Dad's house. Through a torrent of tears he burst, "I want to go home ... to Mommy!" Saying that while afflicted by speech development issues made me realize how anguished he must be. A crushing grip on my heart induced a vow - grant his wish even if it meant shaking up my entire life. Some factors (besides divorce) have affected CJ's bi-lingual skills. The nanny speaks Burmese in a predominantly Thai-speaking home environment. I speak 98% English and 2% Thai with him. He also hears me speak 3 other dialects with my friends. Time is ripe to sort out this little kid. Doing so falls at the beginning of 2010 - a new year, and a new decade. The coincidence is kinda inspiring-- 1. Another birthday . Ceejay turns six in May. Seafood was major in my diet during christmas and new year. Foremost was fish. I hopped from one restaurant to another and had them either deep fried with salads or steamed with lime and herbs. Fish was the star feature of the culinary delights I engaged in, but then I'm a regular fish eater. My are the fish I ate over the recently concluded holidays. Got anything you like on the list? 1.   Several hours after Countdown 2010, friends and I saw this group of people carrying instruments that sound along with some kind of chant. They also hand out pieces of dessert to people. As they go around parade-style they seem to be doing some ethnic dance moves.   And this is Hua Hin beach where we hang out on new year's day last week.
